This Summer, make a batch of our Raspberry Lemonade – a sophisticated thirst-quencher that pairs naturally-sweetened lemonade with juicy red raspberries for a delicious Summer drink enjoyed as is, or with a splash of bourbon!
When we think of Summer drinks, we imagine a frosty glass pitcher filled with fresh squeezed lemonade, fruity sangria, or herbal iced tea perched on an elegant rattan table amidst a lush, serene, and beautifully-manicured garden.
Then the kids run in -- sweaty, tired, and looking for a cold drink, and before we know it, our dream vanishes into thin air.
For those of you who haven’t given up on the dream, we’ve created an all-natural Raspberry Lemonade sweetened with dates and a touch of maple syrup that will delight you, your friends, and your children.
A Classic Pairing of Raspberry and Lemons
It is said that the pairing of lemon and raspberry sweet drinks began as far back as the 1800’s when Colonel Joe Rickey would lobby politicians in Washington, D.C. bars after ordering his favorite drink in hand – a lemonade made with whiskey or bourbon.
Once the Prohibition rolled in, the good Colonel needed to replace the kick of whiskey and substituted lime juice for the lemons. As years went by, the popular "Lime Rickey" found its way into old-fashioned soda shops where raspberry syrup was added for sweetness and thereby creating an entirely new drink -- the "Raspberry Lime Rickey." Our Raspberry Lemonade pays homage to this popular New England summer libation with its mouth-watering blend of sweet and tart flavors.
A Great Blend That You Can Make Your Own
Our Raspberry Lemonade is extremely versatile and can be adapted for various occasions. Here are a few of our favorite ideas:
- Add a splash of orange blossom water or rose water to create a sophisticated floral drink like our Rosewater Lemonade.
- Add a splash of white or rosé wine and sliced citrus fruits
- Replace the maple syrup with a light simple syrup
- Replace the dates with agave and maple syrup or with a light simple syrup and add a splash of whiskey, bourbon or vodka.
Of course, summer is also the best time to serve quick and easy salads and delicious appetizers that will make a great accompaniment to our raspberry lemonade.
Why not try serving some pita chips with Zaatar Olive Tapenade and Red-pepper and Harissa Hummus, Yuca Cups with Guacamole, or an easy Ricotta Crostini? Enjoy!
