Ingredients for Honey Mustard Dressing

A variety of mustards, honey, a little olive oil, and a little lemon juice will make your honey mustard dressing shine.

  • Whole Grain Mustard. A rich, intense flavor much better than plain yellow mustard. If you love mustard, pick your favorites.
  • Dijon Mustard. A special kind of mustard with slightly different notes to round out the flavor profile and add a textural element to the dressing.
  • Honey Mustard. To help form the base of mustard sweetness.
  • Freshly squeezed Lemon Juice. The acid adds brightness to any dish.
  • Extra-Virgin Olive Oil. The healthy fats in EVOO help emulsify the dressing. You could also use avocado oil.
  • Honey, Maple Syrup, or Agave. You can use your choice of liquid sweetener. Adjust the amount of sweetener in the dressing to your liking.

How to Make Honey Mustard Dressing

Making this dressing could not be easier. You literally just need to throw all the ingredients in a mason jar with a lid. Shake it all up until the dressing is smooth and creamy. Refrigerate until you are ready to serve. If you prefer, you can use a small bowl and a whisk, but since you will still need to move the dressing to a jar or other airtight container for storage, our method makes the least amount of mess.

FAQ

What is the difference between honey mustard and honey mustard dressing?

Honey mustard is simply mustard with honey, while a honey mustard dressing is mixed with other ingredients and thinned a bit in order to be tossed with a salad. Make the dressing a vinaigrette by adding red wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar, or white wine vinegar in a small amount until you get the taste and consistency you enjoy.

Can you use honey mustard dressing as a marinade?

Yes. Coat vegetables, tofu, or seitan in the dressing and let it soak overnight. You can also add additional liquids such as apple cider vinegar and extra olive oil to make the dressing more of a marinade consistency.

How long does honey mustard dressing last?

Stored in an airtight container, the honey mustard dressing will last in the refrigerator for five days. Shake before serving.

What goes with honey mustard dressing?

Fries, roasted vegetables, raw vegetables, and chickpea salad are all excellent complements for honey mustard salad dressings. Anything you would serve with ranch dressing can be served with this dressing instead for a great change of pace and variety. So many different sandwiches benefit from a dollop of this sauce.
