Description

Hazelnut lovers, this one is for you! We're going to show you how to roast hazelnuts. It's easier than you think! Roasted hazelnuts are a great addition to salads, roasted vegetables, and desserts, and make a great healthy snack too!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 pound raw hazelnuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. We like lining  a large baking sheet with parchment paper, but hazelnuts can be roasted straight on the baking sheet
  2. Roast for 10-15 minutes. Check hazelnuts after 10 minutes, remove from the oven if they ate done or keep a close eye on them. They can easily burn.
  3. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow them to cool completely (the hazelnuts will continue cooking)
  4. We don't mind the hazelnut outer skins, but if you do, rub the cooled hazelnuts, one handful at a time, with a clean kitchen towel
  5. Store them in the freezer in medium-size glass jars with a tight lid or quart size freezer bags

Notes

  1. Roasted Hazelnuts go from done to ready in no time. Watch them carefully after 10 minutes in the oven
  2. You can toast hazelnuts in the oven on a dry skillet for about 5 minutes on medium-low heat, stirring constantly. Toasted hazelnuts are done when they become golden brown. Don’t let them become too dark or toasted or they will taste burnt.
  3. Keep toasted hazelnuts in a glass jar in the freezer to prevent them from getting rancid.
