Description
Apple butter, a classic autumn treat, is a yummy spread made from cooked-down, mushed-up apples, sugar, and spices. It's not butter, but a concentrated form of applesauce with a deep color, caramelized flavor, and a thick, smooth consistency.

- 2 large apples of your choice, the sweeter the apple the sweeter the applesauce
- 1/3 cup agave nectar, brown sugar, or white sugar
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine diced apples, agave nectar, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a medium-sized saucepan and mix well. Cook covered over medium heat for 20 minutes, stirring often
- Start to gently mash the apples with the back of a spoon or using a potato masher. Continue cooking for another 20 minutes.
- Stir frequently to keep the apples from sticking
- Let cool completely and refrigerate until ready to use
Notes
- Use your favorite apple for this recipe. The sweeter the apples the sweeter the apple sauce. You can also choose a combination of sweet and tart apples.
- Use apple sauce on scones, biscuits, English muffins, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, or oatmeal.
